No. Toolpit does not upload your file for processing — the tool runs as code in this browser tab, works on the copy your browser opened, and forgets it when you close the tab. You can check this yourself: open your browser’s network panel and run the tool. You will see the page, its scripts and the ads on the site, and — when you save, if you are signed in — one small request that charges 10 tokens to your account. None of them carries your file, its name or anything read from it, because file processing stays on your device.
The multiplier is relative to the PDF’s natural size, where 1x is roughly 72 DPI. Use 2x (about 144 DPI) for screens, and 3x or 4x if the image is going to be printed or cropped into.
PNG for pages that are mostly text, line art, charts or screenshots — it is lossless, so edges stay razor sharp and there is no fuzz around letters. JPEG for pages that are mostly photographs, where it produces a much smaller file for the same apparent quality. A text page as JPEG shows faint halos around the letters; a photo page as PNG is often ten times larger for no visible gain.
